3. Characteristics of common filter materials for disposable needle filter
1. Polytetrafluoroethylene membrane is made of natural permanent hydrophobic PTFE material, which can ensure the passage of moist air or other gases without obstruction even under a very low pressure difference, while the water solution cannot pass through. Its performance is opposite to that of hydrophilic membrane. PTFE membrane has a strong chemical compatibility, and it is almost competent for the filtration of all organic solvents and strongly corrosive chemicals. When it is necessary to filter the aqueous solution with PTFE filter membrane, it must be pre soaked with ethanol or isopropanol before the aqueous solution can be filtered.
2. Glass fiber pre filtration membrane (GF): it is used to improve the filtration passing rate and continuous filtration; the glass fiber filter membrane belongs to deep filtration, and its main purpose is to be used as the pre filtration layer and directly added to the filtration membrane.
3. Nylon membrane (nylon): it is used for filtration of alkaline solution and organic solvent; nylon membrane has very good mechanical strength, strong adsorption, and can withstand most organic solvents and most alkaline solutions, especially suitable for filtration of alkaline solution. For organic solvent filtration, such as HPLC mobile phase particle removal filtration, nylon membrane is more economical and practical than PTFE membrane, in addition, nylon membrane can also be used as transfer membrane. Due to the relatively high adsorption performance of nylon membrane, it is generally not recommended to filter biological samples such as culture medium or protein solution, so as to avoid loss of samples due to adsorption. In this case, cellulose acetate membrane (CA) with low adsorption is more suitable.
4. Due to the difference of molecular chains in spatial arrangement, tpf-pp can be classified into two types: random PP and random PP. At room temperature, it can withstand most chemical solvents except strong oxidants; it is applied to impurities or particles in liquid or gas. It is not used for sterilization and filtration, but only for clarification and filtration.
5. PVDF membrane has excellent heat resistance and chemical stability. It is not corroded by acid, alkali, strong oxidant and halogen at room temperature, and is stable to aliphatic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon, alcohol, aldehyde and other organic solvents. Hydrophilic PVDF is widely used in biopharmaceutical sterilization and filtration because of its low protein adsorption and few precipitates. PVDF with positive charge can be used to remove endotoxin.
